New Children's Ministry Coordinator

paper dollsPrince of Peace Lutheran Church and Preschool has a new Children’s Ministry Coordinator! After an exciting search, we are pleased to announce Angela Sherrill has accepted the position and will be starting with us on Monday, August 27. If her name sounds familiar, it is – she is married to our pastor. However, she is an accomplished ministry professional in her own right.

Angela has 14 years of experience serving Lutheran churches in CA and AZ in the areas of youth, children’s and family ministry. She has successfully built Sunday school programs, created summer camps for children and teenagers and mobilized volunteers for joyful service. Angela is both vivacious and extremely organized. Her favorite thing about working in the church is the annual opportunity to lead children’s Christmas programs.

In January of 2012, Prince of Peace adopted a new operating plan. The first item of that plan is to improve and expand our children’s ministry. After interviewing Angela, Prince of Peace’s church council unanimously agreed that she had the best mix of experience and energy to lead our children’s ministry to a bright new future.

Angela’s position at Prince of Peace will include work at both our church and preschool. On the church side, she will be the champion for our Sunday morning children’s ministry. In addition, she will be developing a monthly children’s youth group, children’s holiday musicals, and opportunities for children to participate in worship. We envision nothing less than engaging children and their families with energetic spirituality. On the preschool side, Angela will be leading chapel, organizing preschool interaction Sundays and working with teachers and parents on big events. One of the goals for this position is to build bridges between our preschool families and the ministries of our church.

When she arrives on the scene, please welcome Angela and jump in to support the effort as we strive to build the best children’s ministry in our neighborhood.

Bathed In Light

Bathed in Light book coverDiane Osby Peterson’s Bathed in Light tells how Prince of Peace’s artists, artisans and craftspeople - from needleworkers to metalworkers - became kindred souls as they overcame obstacles and encountered new ones in a 40-year mission to bring artistic beauty, Christian symbolism and, above all, God’s light into their dark and barren sanctuary.  Churchgoers and perennial students of art and religion will find this story of Peterson’s revival of the Christian Art Guild enlightening and inspirational.
