The African Children's Choir returns to Prince of Peace March 14, 2010 9:00am and 10:30am
The African Children's Choir has been working with the most
vulnerable children in Africa for 25 years, raising awareness
of the plight of Africa’s orphaned and abandoned, but also
showing the beauty, dignity and potential of each African
child. They are a voice for the millions of children suffering in
Africa.
A free-will offering will be taken to help provide education,
care and emergency relief for over 7,000 children in
Uganda, Kenya, South Africa, Sudan, Rwanda, Nigeria, and
Ghana.
The concert will be a mixture of well-loved children’s songs,
traditional African songs and dances, and favorite gospel
tunes. Experience the hope, dignity and beauty of Africa! |

In ancient times, when a potter needed to sell a pot that was not perfect, they would cover the crack with wax and then paint over the flaw in the pot. An unknowing buyer would not be able to see the flaw hidden by the wax. How-ever, if a wise buyer simply held the pot up to the light, the flaw would be visible and the buyer would know the pot did not have integrity. The root of the word “integrity” means “without wax.” As we are held up to the light of Christ, our flaws become visible and our “integrity” can be examined. There are many things in life that serve as “wax” to cover our flaws and make us appear better than we really are. In this series we will ex-plore spiritual integrity and examine those things that hide the broken places of our life. A clay pot begins in dust and as water, shape, and fire are added it can become a vessel with integrity. This is our Lenten journey.

On Tuesday, January 12, a magnitude
7.0 earthquake rocked the island
country of Haiti, primarily impacting
the capital, Port-au-Prince.
Offices, hotels, houses and shops
have collapsed. The presidential
palace is in ruins and many churches
have been destroyed. Hospitals are
overflowing and the search for survivors
is intense.
The streets of Haiti are filled with
people in shock and searching for
loved ones among the rubble.
Your help is needed today to bring
immediate relief and continued
hope for our brothers and sisters
in Haiti. About 3 million lives,
one-third of Haiti’s population, are
affected by this earthquake.
Already one of the poorest countries
in the world (70 percent of Haiti’s
population lives in extreme poverty),
this catastrophe will exacerbate the
suffering felt by many already living
with hunger and poverty.
ELCA Disaster Response is already
working through long-standing partnerships
on the ground to provide
emergency food, water, shelter and
medical supplies.
Financial gifts are urgently needed.
Your gifts to ELCA International
Disaster Response, designated
for Haiti Earthquake Relief, will
be used entirely—100 percent—
for immediate relief and ongoing
recovery in Haiti. Your prayers and
generous gifts will make a life-saving
difference. Please give today at www.elca.org/haitiearthquake Read a message from ELCA bishop Mark Hanson\ Update:
Thrivent Financial will match your donation dollar for dollar when given through Prince of Peace. Please make your check out to Prince of Peace Lutheran Church with “Haiti” in the memo line. We will then send one check to the Synod. |

Sunday, 04 October 2009 |
With celebration and thanks we moved back into the newly renovated sanctuary on Rally Sunday, September 13.
We would like to thank each of the many, many individuals who worked to make this possible, but the list is long and there is the fear that we will leave some names out. However, we do want to especially thank Berney Streed and Tracy Wadas for their leadership and efforts over the past months. And to everyone else, know that you are appreciated!
Pictures of the new sanctuary can be viewed in the photo gallery. |
