Clay PotIn ancient times, when a potter needed to sell a pot that was not perfect, they would cover the crack with wax and then paint over the flaw in the pot. An unknowing buyer would not be able to see the flaw hidden by the wax. How-ever, if a wise buyer simply held the pot up to the light, the flaw would be visible and the buyer would know the pot did not have integrity. The root of the word “integrity” means “without wax.” As we are held up to the light of Christ, our flaws become visible and our “integrity” can be examined. There are many things in life that serve as “wax” to cover our flaws and make us appear better than we really are. In this series we will ex-plore spiritual integrity and examine those things that hide the broken places of our life. A clay pot begins in dust and as water, shape, and fire are added it can become a vessel with integrity. This is our Lenten journey.
